DETAILED INSTRUCTIONS ON HOW TO REGISTER IN WINDOWS 7 Professional

Q. Does PF-Diagnose work in Windows 7?

A. Yes.  PF-Diagnose has been installed and tested with Windows 7 Professional and Ultimate In some cases you may need to Take Ownership or run as Administrator by right clicking on the icon and selecting this option in the Compatibility menu.  You can email support for links to various Windows 7 tools that aid in running Windows XP software in a Windows 7 environment and avoid issues with the UAC (User Access Control).  Some third party drivers have issues and they will be noted here as they become apparent.  PF-Diagnose is a 32bit program and has been tested in 64bit windows environments.  If you use a USB-Serial adapter, you will need to update the drivers.  See FAQ below

If you get Database not specified and no default errors when running PF-Diagnose, your 64bit Windows Data Base Driver does not have a 32bit port and you will need to resolve this by adding the proper updates from Microsoft.

Q. I have Windows 7 and my Serial to USB adapter is not recognized, What now?

Do not use the Serial to USB Adapter if your Laptop already has a serial port for COM1 and or COM2, use the built-in ports instead.

A. You need to update the drivers.  You can look for the flag icon and select the proper link and Windows 7 will try to find the drivers for you and explain how to correct the problem.  In Most cases you need to install the Prolific driver

DOWNLOAD THE CORRECT DRIVER

Windows 7

Windows XP 64 bit

Windows XP

You should see the following when done

The default COM port after the install is usually COM 4 or 5, most Datalink adapters will not accept this , you can change the COM port setting in the Control Panel under Printers and Devices.  The com port speed and protocol should be the default

Note that in Windows 7 you need to select Change Settings first before you select Properties and Advanced or you may  get a message that you do not have permission to change registry settings...
